Skuld School

10-12 October 2012

Invitations will be sent out in May/June 2012.

Skuld School

The Association seeks the closest possible co-operation with Skuld’ members, which is the motivation behind Skuld School and the ‘Certificate in P&I Insurance’, unique in the P&I industry. By helping members understand how P&I works, we develop an even closer relationship between owners/charterers and Skuld.

What is the Certificate in P&I insurance?
The Certificate is awarded following completion of a 3-day intensive course. The course covers the rudiments of P&I insurance and an introduction to Skuld’s organisation. It covers everything needed for a good working knowledge of the subject. The presentations are in good hands: Skuld’s own experienced staff members.

Presentations include:

  • Underwriting
  • Owners’ and charterers’ insurance
  • Entry procedures and statistics
  • Reinsurance
  • Additional covers
  • Types and handling of claims
  • Dry cargo liabilities and extra-handling costs
  • Defence insurance
  • Tank cargo cases
  • Oil spills
  • Casualty response/Risk management
  • Personal injury
  • Stowaways

Who is the Certificate for?
The Certificate is primarily aimed at members’ junior staff or others in shipping who need to know the basics of P&I insurance. It is in other words geared towards giving newcomers, and others who feel they need a refresher, an overview of the industry.

Where and when?
The course will be held at the Hotel Continental in Oslo 10-12 October 2012.

How much does it cost?
The course is free for Skuld members (owners and charterers with vessels entered with Skuld). Non-members are required to pay a fee of EUR 1000. This includes course materials, lunch, one dinner and a sightseeing tour of Oslo as well as an open house at Skuld’s offices. All participants must pay for travel and hotel accommodations themselves. Preferential hotel rates have been arranged with several of Oslo's hotels, and we will be happy to assist you in making reservations.
