P&I (Protection and Indemnity) insurance is Skuld's largest line of business. This insurance covers marine liabilities incurred by the member in direct connection with the operation of the entered vessel.

Fixed P&I insurance covers marine liabilities incurred by the client in direct connection with the operation of the entered vessel and also protects the client against loss and liability to third parties. Skuld’s fixed premium P&I provides cover of up to USD 1 billion and still with the club’s full mutual services available.

Liability cover for Mobile Offshore Units (MOUs), that are not covered by standard Offshore P&I, such as drilling rigs (jack ups, semi submersibles, drill ships), accommodation units, FPSOs. Our MOU Cover is a separate facility specifically designed to protect your interests.

Skuld Defence cover, also known as FD&D (Freight, Demurrage & Defence), provides members and assureds with access to comprehensive legal assistance and professional advice from Skuld's lawyers in shipping disputes included in the cover (non-P&I matters). This cover is available to shipowners and charterers.

Skuld Pre-Employment Medical Examination programme (PEME) is an enhanced medical examination for crew run in cooperation with Medical Rescue International. Skuld members who sign up at clinics in India, the Philippines and Ukraine may claim a 50% refund for the outlay at the end of the policy year.

Skuld’s Extended Cargo insurance offers Members and Assureds cover for contractual liabilities and indemnity provisions related to cargo which falls outside the scope of standard P&I insurance: Deviation, Cargo carried on deck (with under deck B/L), Discharge of a cargo at another port or place than stated in the B/L, Delivery of cargo without production of a B/L or W/B, Carriage of cargo under an ad valorem B/L, Carriage of cash, specie, bullion etc., and Loading from, discharging to and carriage of cargo in barges or lighters.

Skuld’s covers for Hague-Visby Rules waivers offers Members and Assureds cover for liabilities arising out of cargo being carried on terms less favourable than Hague- or Hague-Visby Rules: Waiving the right to limit liability, Waiving the right to a time bar, Waiving the right to defences, Waiving the right of recourse, and Incorporation of the Rotterdam Rules.

Skuld’s Cargo Storage insurances offers Members and Assureds cover in respect of liabilities for cargo loss, shortage or damage that fall outside the scope of standard P&I: Cargo storage during drydocking, Cargo remaining onboard during dry-docking, Cargo stowed in non-certified spaces, and Cargo discharged and reloaded on the same vessel.

Skuld’s Through Transport insurances offers Members and Assureds cover for liabilities in respect of cargo and/or third party liabilities occurring in relation to the carriage of cargo while cargo is in the custody of another carrier pursuant to a contract of carriage for through transport or transhipment providing for carriage to be performed partly by the entered vessel and partly by some other means of transport.

Skuld’s Extended Contractual Liability insurance offers Members or Assureds cover for liabilities arising under a contract or indemnity, which are excluded from the scope of standard cover.

Skuld’s Extended Passenger Liability insurances offers Members and Assureds cover for liabilities arising: During activities such as excursions which are part of or associated with a cruise on an entered vessel; or from presence on board of persons other than crew or passengers either directly to such persons or third-party liability.

Skuld can arrange covers for Members and Assureds in respect of the following specific risks excluded from the scope of standard P&I: Exxon GA clause, North American clean-up indemnities, Salvor extension, and Cargo handling equipment liability.

Skuld offers its Members and Assureds, with an insurable interest in bunkers, a cover for loss of owned bunkers on board a ship. The cover will indemnify the shipowner or the charterer for the value of bunkers lost due to a casualty of the ship.

Charterers may have to use specially designed equipment when loading or discharging a chartered ship. This insurance provides cover if the equipment is damaged or lost. Shipowners may also face a similar exposure and can benefit from this insurance cover.

This insurance is specially designed to cover the master's cash stored in a safe on board for sundries and petty charges. The main risk covered is theft and/or loss in case of fire or total loss of the vessel. Master's cash is normally excluded from hull and P&I cover.

Container insurance offers cover for the value of the container or the cost of repairs in case of loss or damage to a container.

Charterers, and sometimes owners, may have an exposure in unpaid freight when freight is paid fully or partly at delivery of cargo. The exposure includes risks of a total loss of the vessel, collision, general average or salvage where the outstanding freight may be considered as a contributor. Available to any Skuld member or charterer Assured where freight is at risk.

When a charterer sub-charters a vessel out to a new charterer for an agreed period, the charterer has an insurable risk to cover the future freight income if the vessel is lost. Available to any charterer Assured in Skuld where freight or charter hire is at risk over a longer period.

Charterers, and sometimes owners, may have an exposure in unpaid freight when freight is paid fully or partly at delivery of cargo. The exposure includes risks of a total loss of the vessel, collision, general average or salvage where the outstanding freight may be considered as a contributor. The cover is based on a defined single voyage. Available to any Skuld member or charterer Assured where freight is at risk.

This insurance will provide cover outside the risks in the standard P&I or Liability cover when the insured vessel is engaged in towing another vessel.
