We are pleased to announce that our new office, Skuld Japan, opens in Tokyo 15 August 2022, and we welcome Skuld Japan to our global team.

Skuld has over many years enjoyed strong relationships with Japanese shipowners as well as the local insurance market and is recognised for financial robustness, professionalism, and high-quality service. Having a physical presence in Japan, close to members and clients, will further strengthen our service offering to the Japanese shipping community for the years to come.

Skuld Japan team

We have successfully secured the first recruitments to join our head of Skuld Japan, Jinsung Son. Everyone in the team has extensive experience and solid reputation in the Japanese market and we are very pleased that they have all decided to join Skuld.

 

Jinsung Son, Senior Vice President, Head of Skuld Japan

Jinsung has a bachelor’s degree in law from Waseda University, Tokyo, and prior to joining Skuld in 2020, he spent 15 years at the Japan P&I Club, most recently as deputy general manager and team leader.

 

Takehiko Hino, Assistant Vice President, Claims and Underwriting

Takehiko comes from a position as Loss Prevention Team Leader with Japan P&I where he has been since 2015. He previously worked for Daiichii Tanker as a Marine Superintendent in their Marine Technology Division from 2008, and as an Operator in Senko’s Tanker Operation Division from 2004. Takehiko has a Bachelor in Navigation from Kobe Maritime University and holds 3rd grade Navigation Officer License.

 

Luigi Tajima, Assistant Vice President, Claims and Underwriting

Luigi joins Skuld from a position as Manager/Executive of Claims Handling at Japan P&I, handling both FDD and P&I cases. He joined Japan P&I in 2017 and previously worked as a Marine Superintendent for Hachiuma Steamship from 2015 and as a Marine Surveyor in Jesco from 2009. Luigi completed a Master of Laws at the Waseda University, Graduate School of Law in Tokyo in 2021.

 

Akinao Watabe, Assistant Vice President, Accounting and Compliance Officer

Akinao comes from a position as Team Leader in the Investment Management and Accounting Department at Japan P&I. He started his career in Japan P&I as a claims handler in 2007, and then moved to Invest Management and Accounting in 2014. Akinao has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Faculty of Economics at Saitama University.
