Skuld Walking For Seafarers

Five years. 100 million steps. One purpose.

Skuld Walking for Seafarers is an annual global initiative that brings together colleagues across Skuld’s international offices to walk, raise awareness and support seafarers’ well-being.

In 2025, the initiative reached 100 million steps since its launch, marking five years of step-counting for seafarers keeping global trade moving.

The initiative reflects Skuld’s commitment to the maritime community and recognises the vital role of seafarers worldwide. It also strengthens our culture by connecting colleagues across offices and aligns with Skuld’s values and with UN SDG 3: good health and well-being.

Impact over the years

Since its launch, Skuld Walking for Seafarers has supported a range of welfare initiatives for seafarers and their families, focusing on mental health, inclusion, emergency support and well-being at sea.

Funds raised through the initiative have contributed to Sailors’ Society programmes aimed at strengthening access to confidential support for seafarers, including the start-up of the first LGBTQ+ peer-to-peer support groups and the establishment of a dedicated helpline for female seafarers. These services provide safe spaces for seafarers to connect, share experiences and receive support when needed.

The initiative has also supported the Sailors’ Society Cadet Conference for maritime students in the UK and Europe, which is part of the Wellness at Sea programme. The conference gives cadets practical tools to recognise mental health challenges, support peers and build resilience for life at sea.

Skuld Walking for Seafarers has also contributed to the Sailors’ Society Ukrainian Appeal, helping seafarers and their families affected by the war in Ukraine, and to the International Seafarers' Welfare & Assistance Network (ISWAN) Seafarers Emergency Fund, supporting seafarers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
