Egypt: E-mails purporting to come from the Suez Canal Authority

Port news

Published: 14 June 2013

The Association has been advised that there are attempts to solicit the provision of detailed and confidential information from vessels by the use of e-mails allegedly originating from the Suez Canal Authority.

The Marshall Island Registry has issued an alert in respect of this matter.

Following consultation with Skuld Correspondents, it has been confirmed that there is a third party at work which seeks to solicit this information and subsequently seeks to ask for the settlement of alleged invoices.

The advice received by the Association is that this third party has no relationship with the actual Suez Canal Authority.

If Members or the Master of a vessel are receiving a message direct and alleging to emanate from the Suez Canal Authority they are asked to contact the Association immediately for further assistance. Local Correspondents will also be available to assist directly in case of urgent matters.

In case of any query or concern, Members are asked to contact the Association for further advice and assistance.
