If there’s one thing we can learn from both the ocean and the past, it is that nothing stands still. We are continuously moving forward towards the future, there is always a new wave. Innovation has been at the heart of our thinking for more than 125 years, and the new wave is green. Sustainability is no longer an option, it’s an undisputed demand, and the ocean industries have a pivotal role to play, today and in the future.
A healthy ocean is critical for our future
Our planet is 70% water, the same as the human body. Yet we recognise that much of the ocean remains unknown with its unexplored depths and distant horizons. What we do know is that we all depend on a healthy ocean space. Today, our commitment to sustainability drives innovation and the development of solutions that will help protect people, property and the planet in the future.
Skuld contributes to sustainable solutions through assessing and surveying shipping risks, conducting comprehensive casualty response services and delivering extensive loss prevention programmes which aim to safeguard casualties and prevent injury to people, the environment and property.
Skuld's purpose statement 'Protecting ocean industries' underlines our role in society and our commitment to members and clients and to the global ocean industries. Today, our commitment also includes an awareness of climate challenges and the need for sustainable development.

Skuld has selected five key UN sustainable development goals (SDGs).
SDG 3, Good health and well-being
Skuld works to improve health and safety during working life for crew and employees.
SDG 10, Reduced inequalities
Skuld promotes diversity and gender equality internally and externally.
SDG 13, Climate action
Skuld integrates climate change measures in strategy, decision making and investment practices.
SDG 14, Life below water
Skuld encourages resource-sensitive behaviours.
SDG 16, Peace, justice and strong institutions
Skuld acts against corruption and bribery in all their forms.
A strategic initiative
Sustainability is one of Skuld’s strategic initiatives and we are running a programme which includes development targets and activities within relevant Skuld areas. The programme, is supported by Skuld’s Board and management, and is integrated in core business processes; Loss Prevention, Underwriting, Finance and HR and Communication.
We have established robust KPIs and targets which will be followed up and reported on.
