Nigeria is and remains a key trading nation in Africa, being host to the continent's largest economy. Both as an export nation, as well as an import nation, it is very significant.
It has a large, young, population and produces a number of significant raw resources. While oil and gas are amongst the most well-known products, Nigeria produces a number of other resources.
It is also a significant market for imports such as cement and rice.
Nigeria is also a country facing a number of challenges and the security and claims environment can be very challenging.
Last year's Ebola outbreak added a serious complicating factor, not least when it came to the issue of dealing with stowaway incidents relating to Nigerian persons.
Prior to trading with Nigeria it is important to be aware of the issues that may be faced and to prepare accordingly with sound contracting practice and strong operational follow up.
